The Smile

The Smile

London-based architect Alison Brooks unveiled "The Smile" during the London Design Festival. On display until October 12th, the product of Brooks, Arup, and the American Hardwood Export Council is 34-meters long and pioneers the use of cross-laminated timber. While CLT commonly uses soft woods like spruce, Brooks opted for Tulipwood, an abundant North American natural resource that is stronger than concrete.

The structure is currently on display on the Rootstein Hopkins Parade Grounds at Chelsea College of Art in southwest London.
